Kentucky, LBL

Savannah Wedding Trip, Day 11-12

Hiked Foster Falls and then biked LBL.

Hiked Climber's Loop

Drove to Energy Lake Campground, LBL.

Dead-end

Even though this is a forest road, this terrain is as fun as single track.

Notes:
  • Watched a man stop and take his time driving his new, clean truck through a rough piece of road. I don't think appreciated me watching, but he was friendly when we spoke. Some folks buy trucks, but are reluctant to go off-road with them.

Kentucky, Cave Run Lake

Savannah Wedding Trip, Day 3

Another beautiful day and I start my ride directly from the campground which is ideal.

Warm-up on the Twin Knobs Shore Trail

Clack Mountain Road

Someone left their sunglasses on a log

Sheltowee means Big Turtle (Daniel Boone's Indian name)

Limestone Loop Trail (sweet single track)

Cave Run Lake
What a perfect ride. Climb a friendly forest road, then descend back to the lake on single track.

2.5 hour drive to Breaks Interstate Park on Kentucky/Virginia border. Felt lost the whole time following Google directions through the mountains.

Kentucky, Louisville Loop

Savannah Wedding Trip, Day 2

With an early start from the Hoosier National Forest, I drove two hours to Louisville, KY. The city has embarked on an ambitious plan to build a 100-mile bicycle and pedestrian trail encircling the city  called the Louisville Loop. It won't be finished any time soon, but long segments are ready for riding. I arrived at the William Miles Garden in the Parklands of Floyds Fork and unloaded my road bike. The weather was perfect with partly cloudy skies and modest winds.

All concrete and fast

The trail is interspersed with many parks and gardens

Lots of climbs and bridges -- a very expensive trail.

Perfect spot for lunch at the Big Overlook

What a nice ride (40 miles, 12:30-4:45pm). From Louisville, I drove two and half hours to Cave Run Lake in the Daniel Boone National Forest.

Kentucky, LBL

Cloudland Tour, Day 5 and 6

After a long drive from Georgia, I'm back at one my favorite biking areas, the Land Between the Lakes Recreation Area.

Perfect Lunch Spot on Kentucky Lake

The working conditions must have brutal. No wonder the furnace crew revoted.

It's bad luck to run over a snake! Got lost twice

LBL jeep trails are beautiful, but slow going. This ride was over 6 hours.

Energy Lake Campground, site C5, very nice!

Mona called me to ask that I collect rocks for a decorations Lauren's wedding. A variation on a wedding wishing tree, the idea was guests would write their wedding well-wishes on rocks. And I needed to collect 200 rocks suitable for the wishes.

LBL Rocks

The rock idea was cancelled, but not before I collected 200 rocks!

LBL Route

The next day I was headed home, but not before stopping for a quickie on the Tunnel Hill Trail. I had ridden from Stonefort to Tunnel Hill back in 2017 and I wanted to complete the southern part of the trail.

Tunnel Hill Trail

The rain had started

On the way back, is started to rain so I gave up once I reached the van.  That leaves a ten mile segment between Vienna to Breeden Trestle and everything north of Stonefort left undone.

Vienna to Wetlands Center

I put the wedding rocks to good use
